The multi-award winning John McDonald Company prides itself on custom-built homes of distinction. And this spectacular residence - featuring the world’s best hangar door - is certainly no exception.
Located in the Tailwinds Airpark Community in Jupiter, Florida, this pristine 7,000 square foot residential hangar was built to house and protect the owners’ precious and prized collectibles, including a 1943 Boeing Stearman and a 1944 Beech Staggerwing.
Hydroswing was the one and only door that was able to provide all of the necessary elements for this unique project: Security to protect the historical investments; Strength to defend against unpredictable Florida weather; and the sleek finishing capabilities to meet the demands of a builder holding the highest standards of excellence in design, craftsmanship and beauty.
From preparation to installation, Hydroswing rose to the occasion and fulfilled the requirements at every turn. Prior to delivery, the 60’ x 16’ and 48’ x 16’ doors were galvanized to provide additional environmental protection. An internal truss was specified to allow for the beautiful, “faux garage door” finish that called for especially heavy finishing materials, including stucco wainscoting, HardiePlank Lap Siding and impact glass windows. And yet, even with the added demands, the Hydroswing stands strong. According to Dennis McDonald, President of John McDonald Company, “The door works like a champ! The hangar has become the envy of every other pilot in the airport community.”
Nestled on 5 acres of beautiful wetlands, the property also includes a small main residence and a guesthouse. Adding to this exceptional design, the hangar has a second story observation tower to allow tarmac viewing and the driveway design includes a compass created from pavers that is visible from the air.
As a result of the Hydroswing capabilities, and the builder’s attention creative detail, the John McDonald Company has added to an already impressive lineup of awards. This innovative project earned the company the prestigious South Florida Builder’s Association Silver Prism Award in the Commercial Architecture category – proving, once again, that the country’s best builders choose the world’s best door.
